Summer 2024 at Heritage Escapes

Heritage Escapes. What’s new for 2024?

Summer is here and June has been busy here on the Yorkshire coast. We’ve been fully occupied keeping things fresh and new, indoors and outside for the enjoyment of our visitors. It takes a lot of doing and it keeps us on out toes.

This year we at Heritage Escapes celebrate an important landmark – established in 1984, we have been expanding the holiday cottage side of our business for forty years. Two generations now share this family enterprise  and we continue to approach each successive season with enthusiasm and new ideas.

Last month we finished a second photo-shoot with Marcin from Act Studios  – some of the images he took in November are on this and an earlier blog.  We like his style  and believe he captures the warmth and friendliness of our properties here at Heritage Escapes. More will be following soon as he has spent his last weekend photographing The Garden Cottage,   Hind’s Cottage  and The Roost – all on our Field House Farm site.

We strive to present our cottages at Field House Farm looking as good as new. Amazingly, we started out with Garden Cottage (for six weeks only in the school summer holidays) soon after John and I moved into the farmhouse in 1983 – probably years before most of you were born!  Of course all the cottages have undergone many changes and been re-vamped numerous times. Over  the years we have transformed and re-modelled the Victorian farm buildings into the luxury cottages we have today.  We’re never entirely satisfied and always have ideas and plans for improvements, which have been kick-started and helped along the way with input from James, our son, who returned to the business eight years ago.

We know our visitors expect the best. We understand you are looking for quality, reliability and attention to detail and this is what we deliver. Our aim is to is maintain the cottages to the highest standards, and we are kept busy in the quieter months of the year spending time improving our offer.

What’s new this summer?

Fire doors have been a recent priority as new legislation, which came in last October, has altered the requirements for holiday cottages. James has worked alongside our joiner, Andy,  so that we are compliant. Andy is a one man band and we’re so glad to have begun a very fruitful working relationship with him. I was sad to see our old farmhouse stable doors go, with their traditional latches and quirky dimensions. However their replacements look wonderfully stylish.

All the cottages have received the necessary up-grade in fire and smoke alarms too. Craig, who set up and runs #HeadlandsElectrical and Plumbing, always does a 1st class job and couldn’t be more helpful.

We are so lucky to have such skilled craftspeople and tradesmen/women working alongside us and giving us their time and their advice.

Giving the Roost a bit of a boost

The Roost living room area

The Roost living room area

Sometimes a new sofa and matching armchairs can make the world of difference and this is certainly true of our additions in the Roost. The lounge area has been transformed by the new furniture, plus striking table lamps, curtains, art work and rugs, adding colour  and style to this generous  living space. Both bedrooms have been brightened by cushions, throws and paintwork. We do our best to buy from local suppliers. Our furniture usually come from- Rogers of York, and  Barnitts also in York, but we use bigger firms too.  Plumbs, and Dunelm  are trusteed traders and we buy as much as we can from Bridlington and Driffield based businesses such as West Building Supplies https://www.westbs.co.uk/   and MKM.

Housekeeping for Summer 2024

We’d be nowhere without our brilliant group of house keepers – Fiona, the team leader, guides us all in the most kindly but firm fashion and couldn’t be easier company for her team – Linda, Dawn, Anne, Moira, Tilly (when looking after her toddler permits) and our newest recruit, Karen, who has fitted in perfectly.   They are all consistently cheerful, hardworking and never cease to go the extra mile when necessary. Every now and the they allow one of us to take a team photo – I’ll post one as soon as the whole team gives their seal of approval.
