Mid February is the season when the city of York welcomes modern day Vikings and their hugely entertaining Viking Yorvik Festival.

From Monday, 17th February to Sunday, 23rd February hordes of Vikings will occupy the streets of York, showcasing all things Viking.
This February half term in York you can expect Viking encampments, showcasing everyday life, Viking action on the River Ouse, women, men and children dressed in authentic costume of the era and engaging in friendly interaction with York visitors and residents.
Half term Chocolate Treats
Sadly, Viking occupied York was far too early in history to know the delights of chocolate, but the irresistible taste and smell of chocolate has infused many important strands of York’s history. The home of famous historic chocolate brands, Terry’s and Rowntrees, York still produces chocolate and still retains manufacturers, large and small. We place independent producer Guppys chocolate shards in our apartment hampers, to give our visitors a sweet treat when they arrive.
York’s Chocolate Story is presenting a masterclass in chocolate making activities suitable for all ages on the 18th,19th and 20th February. Listen and watch an expert chocolatier- a delightful treat for the chocoholics, who will be encouraged to unleash their creativity and craft delicious chocolates to take home with them.
During this February Half Term in York, “The Art of Wallpaper Morris and Company” will be showing and continues until 23rd February
Harry Potter and York
The famous Shambles in York has now become home to The Shop that must not be Named packed full of magic and wizardry and draws crowds of HP fans. As a visitor arriving by train, look out for a location made famous by boy wizard Harry Potter when he is left alone on the pedestrian bridge, searching for the wizard’s departure platform.( It is meant to be Kings Cross, but York’s pedestrian footbridge fitted the bill perfectly.)
