Stunning Snowdrop Walks

Our undisturbed woodland where wild snowdrops grow Snowdrop Walks
Stunning Snowdrop Walks by the Yorkshire Coast
Snowdrop walks have become very popular in recent years and we are lucky to have some excellent country houses nearby, opening up their snowdrop covered grounds to the general public. Like us, many of our visitors enjoy strolling amongst a carpet of snowdrops – something everyone can experience here in East Yorkshire – from the end of January right through until early March.
Here is a selection of our favourite Snowdrop Walks near our warm and cosy holiday cottages at High Barn and Field House Farm. Here at Heritage Escapes we are open throughout the winter months and our cottages are toasty warm, so they make a perfect place for a long weekend or a midweek break- guaranteed to chase away those winter blues.

When the estate was sold and broken up in the 1930’s, John’s grandfather, William, a former tenant to Lloyd Graham, purchased the fields that now surround our farmhouse.
Sunday 9th and Sunday 16th Londesbrough is a privately owned estate, but on two Sundays every February the owners throw open their gates and invite visitors to come along and enjoy the swathes of snowdrops which grow here. Known as Snowdrop Sundays, this year, the grounds are open on Sunday 9th February and Sunday 16th February. The park is situated in the picturesque village of Londesborough, near Market Weighton . The grand house was demolished in 1819 but acres of beautiful parkland remain.
Burnby Hall.

Between Monday 10th and Wednesday 19th February, Burnby Hall Gardens are inviting visitors to focus on their new collection of nearly 100 individual varieties of snowdrops planted over the last couple of years. Head Gardener, Jill Ward, has sourced and planted individual examples of Galanthus (snowdrops), primarily in the Rock Garden and Walled Garden
Burnby Hall Gardens, found on the outskirts of Pocklington are a pleasure to walk around. They are famous for their water lilies in summer, but February is the time for their snowdrops
Our snowdrops at home at Field House
By the end of January the snowdrops are poking out of the ground here at the farm. We can walk through a small patch of woodland where they are sufficiently undisturbed to form an ever-increasing carpet of delicate white blooms. They also seem to favour growing up our driveway under a hawthorn hedge and at the foot of the drive in a shady hollow which was once a pond. Two year ago we transplanted lots of groups into the wildflower meadow at High Barn, but they are taking a long time to settle and haven’t yet spread very far.
