Visiting York in January and February

York’s River Ouse at night

Visiting York in January and February is a great idea. Unlike many other destinations, York does not shut down during the winter months. Following the Christmas and New Year holidays, York set about welcoming visitors for a pretty special winter break.  The shops are as busy as ever and, until the end of January, bargains are to be found in thse sales period, which often extends into early February. The York One Day Book Fair  is on 11th January.

Spectacular lights on York Minster

York is well known as being a Festival city. January 5th sees the opening of The Van Gogh Immersive Experience at St Mary’s Church, just next to the Yorvik Centre.

The artist’s creations are projected onto the walls around you. Imagine being surrounded by such colour and vibrancy in such close quarters.  The York Ice Trail takes place over the weekend 1st-2nd February.

Sculptured ice statues are to be found throughout the city and we will try to post images onto our Instagram page of this spectacle – as it really is worth a visit

Step back in time for the Yorvik Viking Festival – opening  on 15th February and extends until 23rd February
